China(town), 2016

Participatory Work

In collaboration with Megan Miao

China(town) is a collaboration between Megan and Joscelin, focused on exploring the cultural concept of Chinatown in relation to urban walking. Chinatown exists in many different countries and we were first intrigued by the differences and similarities that stem between the Chinatown of London versus that of Singapore. This is a collaborative project that attempts to alternative between the macro and micro perspective of “chinatown” by selecting elements that may be deemed as stereotypical of a Chinatown as well as gathering individual experiences from walking in chinatown. The project is process and research driven and invites the viewers to construct their idea of chinatown using lego pieces whilst the artists and participants speak about their views and opinions.
